Mary-Ann Sheble, Dean of Libraries at Oakland Community College, was elected to the position of Vice-Chair / Chair-Elect of the Community & Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) of the Association of College & Research Libraries.
In the same 2008 election, Nan Schichtel, Information Literacy & Outreach Librarian at Grand Rapids Community College, was elected Secretary of the CJCLS Section.
The purpose of the Community and Junior College Libraries Section is to contribute to library service and librarianship through those activities which relate to libraries and learning resources centers and services and which support the educational programs in community and junior colleges and equivalent institutions.

Kellogg Community College's Emory W. Morris Library has been awarded a grant to deliver a book discussion series in the Fall, 2008. The American Library Association and Nextbook sponsor the grant. This is the final grant time period for the Jewish Literature theme. Working with community partners of Lakeview High School (Battle Creek) Media Center, Miller College and Temple Beth El, the College will host the series that will be led by a scholar.
Dr. Barry Gross, Professor Emeritus, Michigan State University, will lead the book discussions slated to begin in September and conclude in October. Several Miller and Kellogg Community College classes will have tie-in class projects for the series.
